Artist's Statement

The main thing to understand about this cartoon is that I drew it in a Motel 6 in Lincoln, Nebraska, and scanned and e-mailed it in from a Kinko's the next day. To me it felt like one of those desperate, C-grade "this'll have to do" cartoons you turn in when you don't have any better ideas, but when I showed my friend Louise in Telluride, Colorado, she laughed, which reassured me somewhat. Louise has always been a big cheerleader for me.
