Artist's Statement

I drew this as a congratulatory card to my friend Emily Flake, whose own comic strip began running in the Baltimore City Paper two weeks ago. I decided to run it as my cartoon this week because after my infamous annual Fourth of July Party, which lasted from Wednesday night until approximately two hours ago (Monday afternoon), I am so horribly hung over and busy trying to clean up my devastated house and property that there was just no way I could draw an original cartoon. I am sure Emily will appreciate the expediency of this as she faces her own weekly deadline in similar circumstances.

As it happens, this cartoon is appropriate this week, since so many readers have complained that they did not understand last week's John Ashcroft cartoon. Let me say to them that you are all idiots.
