Artist's Statement

Funny stories are about all I've been able to salvage from some experiences. Turning pain into laughter is my job, and it's the best you can do sometimes, but it's a sad, impotent sort of solace, and it's the that recognition, rather than the more obvious punchline--that this is one situation that never will be a funny story--that's the point of this cartoon. I'm not going to discuss the humiliatng situation I drew this in resonse to but it felt a lot like having rotten vegetables hurled at you by jeering mobs on the gallows.
